Epic Journeys: Niagara, Rockies & Alaska

Three of North America’s great experiences in one journey: Niagara Falls, the Rocky Mountaineer through the Rockies and a seven-night Alaska cruise, with your flights, hotels, rail, cruise and transfers all arranged.

Start with two nights in Toronto, including the CN Tower, and a night at Niagara Falls with a boat cruise to the falls (or Journey Behind the Falls in cooler months). Then fly to Calgary for two nights in Banff, including a small-group tour with the Banff Gondola.

Board the Rocky Mountaineer in SilverLeaf class for two days through the mountains to Vancouver, stopping overnight in Kamloops. After two nights in Vancouver, including the Capilano Suspension Bridge, you sail for seven nights on Holland America’s Koningsdam in a veranda stateroom, with drinks, speciality dining, Wi-Fi and gratuities included through the Have It All package.

Like all our trips, it’s easy to adjust: upgrade to GoldLeaf, add nights where you’d like longer or change the route to suit you.

Your Route

Hotel and cruise nights total 15. The 16th night is spent on your overnight flight home.

Is this a private trip, and can I change it?

It’s a private trip built around your dates, not a group tour on fixed departures. You share the Rocky Mountaineer, the cruise and some excursions with other travellers, but you aren’t part of a tour group. You can change anything: add nights, swap places, upgrade hotels or slow the pace, and we’ll reprice it for you.

When is the best time to go?

May to September, when the Alaska cruise season and the Rocky Mountaineer overlap. June to August is the warmest time, while May and September are quieter.

Cruise cabins and Rocky Mountaineer seats sell out months ahead, so book as early as you can.

Which airlines do you use?

We usually use Air Canada, British Airways or WestJet, which fly direct from London to Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montréal, and we can book flights from regional UK airports.

Flights out leave during the day, so you arrive the same day. Flights home are usually overnight, which is why the length of each trip includes a night on the plane.

What are the hotels like?

We choose hotels for their location and character, from city hotels to mountain lodges and small inns. Some Canadian hotels add a resort or facility fee, and city hotels often charge for parking. Where we can, we include these in your price, and we’ll tell you about any you pay locally.

Do I need a visa?

UK passport holders flying to Canada need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA). It only takes a few minutes to apply online, but do it as soon as you’ve booked, and use the official Government of Canada website, as other sites charge extra. If you hold a different passport, ask us. Your cruise calls at ports in Alaska, which is part of the USA, so you’ll also need an ESTA.

What’s driving in Canada like?

Easy, on the whole. You drive on the right, the roads are good and traffic outside the cities is light. A full UK licence is normally all you need. Distances are bigger than they look on a map, so we keep driving days sensible. In the mountains, fill up when you can, as fuel stops are spread out and mobile signal comes and goes. If you collect your car in one city and return it in another, there may be a one-way fee, which we include in your price where we can.

What isn’t included in the price?

Your quote lists everything that’s included. The main things to budget for are any meals that aren’t included, sales tax, which in Canada is added at the till rather than shown on the price, and tips. Tipping is expected in Canada, usually 15 to 20% in restaurants. Medical care is expensive for visitors, so make sure your travel insurance has good medical cover.

How do I pay, and is my money protected?

We take a deposit to confirm your booking, and the balance is due before you travel. Your quote shows the exact amounts and dates.

Every holiday with flights is ATOL protected (ATOL T9762), and we’re members of the Travel Trust Association (U5660), so the money you pay us is protected. We also strongly recommend taking out travel insurance as soon as you book.

What happens if something goes wrong while I’m away?

You’ll have a 24-hour emergency number for your whole trip. During office hours, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm UK time, you can also call our team on 0333 7000 747.

Who are Jasmine Holidays?

We’re an independent UK tour operator, arranging tailor-made holidays since 2007. You deal with one specialist from your first call until you’re home, and our clients rate us 4.9 out of 5 on Trustpilot.

Toronto

Canada’s largest city and its cultural capital, Toronto is a dynamic metropolis that effortlessly blends cosmopolitan flair with diverse neighbourhood charm. Towering skyscrapers define its skyline—crowned by the iconic CN Tower—while tree-lined streets and waterfront parks invite visitors to slow down and explore.

Toronto’s vibrant arts and dining scenes reflect its multicultural heritage, with world-class museums, galleries, and theatres alongside an endless array of global cuisines. Stroll through colourful districts like Kensington Market, Distillery District, and Queen Street West, or take a ferry to the Toronto Islands for a fresh perspective of the city. Energetic, diverse, and ever-evolving, Toronto captures the essence of modern Canada.

Niagara Falls

One of the world’s most famous natural wonders, Niagara Falls is a breathtaking spectacle that must be experienced to be believed. The thundering cascades of Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls create a dramatic display of power and beauty that captivates visitors year-round.

Beyond the falls themselves, the surrounding region offers a wealth of attractions—from scenic boat cruises that take you close to the mist, to the charming town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, known for its vineyards, boutique shops, and heritage architecture. Adventure seekers can explore walking trails and viewpoints, while those seeking relaxation can enjoy spa retreats or fine dining with a view. Niagara Falls promises an unforgettable blend of natural wonder and refined leisure.

Banff

Banff combines small-town charm with some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in North America. Located in Banff National Park, the town is surrounded by jagged peaks, glacial lakes, and scenic valleys, providing endless opportunities for outdoor adventure.

Visitors can explore hiking and biking trails, soak in the natural hot springs, or take the Banff Gondola up Sulphur Mountain for panoramic views. The town itself is lively, with charming shops, galleries, and restaurants offering everything from hearty Canadian fare to fine dining. With its mix of adventure, relaxation, and stunning natural beauty, Banff is a must-visit destination in the Rockies.

Rocky Mountaineer — First Passage to the West

The Rocky Mountaineer’s “First Passage to the West” route is one of the world’s most legendary rail journeys, connecting Vancouver and Banff (or Lake Louise) through the dramatic landscapes of Western Canada. Known for its luxurious service and glass-domed coaches, the route offers an unforgettable way to experience the Canadian Rockies.

As the train winds through lush river valleys, towering canyons, and snow-capped peaks, guests enjoy gourmet meals and fascinating commentary about the region’s history and natural wonders. Highlights include the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon, the meeting of the Thompson Rivers in Kamloops, and the climb over Rogers Pass in the heart of the mountains.

Kamloops

Located in the heart of British Columbia’s interior, Kamloops is a vibrant city where the Thompson Rivers meet and rolling hills stretch into the distance. Known for its sunny climate and outdoor spirit, Kamloops offers a perfect blend of adventure, nature, and small-city charm. It provides a great half way stop over point for your Rocky Mountaineer adventure.

Vancouver

Set between the Pacific Ocean and the coastal mountains, Vancouver is a stunningly scenic city that perfectly blends urban sophistication with natural beauty. From the bustling streets of downtown and the trendy shops of Gastown to the leafy trails of Stanley Park, the city offers a wealth of experiences for every visitor.

Vancouver is also a culinary hotspot, with an international food scene that reflects its multicultural population, including fresh seafood, Asian fusion, and farm-to-table delights. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore nearby beaches, bike along seawalls, or ski in the nearby mountains during winter. With its lively arts scene, vibrant neighbourhoods, and breathtaking surroundings, Vancouver promises a city experience like no other.

Inside Passage

The Inside Passage is one of the most scenic stretches of coastline in the world — a sheltered waterway weaving between forested islands and glacier-carved fjords. As your ship glides through calm waters, you’ll be surrounded by towering cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and the chance to spot whales, sea lions, and bald eagles. The ever-changing light and mist create an atmosphere of pure magic, making this one of the highlights of any Alaska cruise.

Tracy Arm Inlet

Tracy Arm Inlet offers one of Alaska’s most breathtaking natural spectacles. This narrow fjord, flanked by sheer granite walls rising over 1,000 metres, leads to the twin Sawyer Glaciers — massive rivers of ice that crack and calve into the turquoise waters below. Along the way, you might see seals resting on floating icebergs and waterfalls tumbling down from the cliffs. The tranquil beauty and dramatic scenery make Tracy Arm an unforgettable cruising experience.

Juneau

Alaska’s capital, Juneau, combines rugged wilderness with small-town charm. Surrounded by mountains, glaciers, and the sea, it’s a city you can only reach by air or water. Visitors can take a short trip to the stunning Mendenhall Glacier, go whale watching in Auke Bay, or ride the Mount Roberts Tramway for sweeping views of the coastline. Downtown Juneau offers a mix of historic buildings, boutique shops, and cosy seafood restaurants serving fresh Alaskan crab and salmon.

Skagway

Once a bustling gateway for gold rush pioneers, Skagway retains its frontier spirit with beautifully preserved wooden boardwalks and 19th-century buildings. History lovers can explore the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park or ride the famous White Pass & Yukon Route Railway — a spectacular journey through mountain passes, gorges, and waterfalls. Today, Skagway offers a blend of adventure, history, and charm that captures the essence of Alaska’s wild past.

Glacier Bay National Park

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Glacier Bay National Park is one of the crown jewels of Alaska’s wilderness. Here, colossal glaciers flow from the mountains to meet the sea, calving thunderously into icy waters. The park is also home to humpback whales, sea otters, and bears roaming the shoreline. Cruising through Glacier Bay is a humbling experience — a front-row view of nature’s raw power and timeless beauty.

Ketchikan

Known as the “Salmon Capital of the World,” Ketchikan is a lively harbour town surrounded by lush rainforest and steep, green hills. Colourful houses perch on wooden boardwalks above the water, and the town is famous for its rich Indigenous culture and impressive collection of totem poles. Visitors can explore Creek Street’s historic shops, join a fishing excursion, or venture into the nearby Misty Fjords National Monument to see sheer granite cliffs and mirror-like lakes.
